YALSA’s Young Adult Literature Symposium Stipend enables two qualified recipients to attend the symposium, which will be held in Austin, Nov. 14 - 16, 2014. Each stipend offers up to $1,000: one to a library worker who works directly with young adults, with at least one year of experience; the second is to a student enrolled in an ALA or NCATE accredited library program (you must be a graduate student as of Oct. 31, 2014) with a focus on serving young adults in a library setting. Applications are due by June 15. Applicants must be personal members of YALSA (student membership is okay for the student stipend). Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Previous winners are not eligible.
EdCamp Chicago Township High School District 211 will be hosting EdCamp Chicago on Saturday May 10th from8:00 – 3:00 at the Palatine High School campus. An EdCamp is a conference where the attendees choose the topics and then speak on them, as more of an open discussion. Google provides the $7,500 stipend for the summer, but the work agenda is determined by the ALA and the selected fellow. The Google Washington office provides an educational program for all of the fellows, such as lunchtime talks and interactions with Google Washington staff.
Award for GSLIS Student The Helen Cohen Outstanding Student Award is given each year during spring commencement activities to an MLIS student who is enrolled in the spring semester and has completed at least 12 credits or who has graduated within the last two semesters (i.e., fall or summer). The award amount is $500. Nomination Process The student can be nominated for the award by other students, GSLIS full-time and adjunct faculty, or other members of the university community (e.g., Crown librarians, GSLIS staff, Mission and Ministry representatives). Self-nominations are also accepted. The nominator should submit a statement (500-700 words) byApril 1 about the student that addresses the award selection criteria.
